Sojourn, last updated 23 August 2026
These Terms govern your use of Sojourn (the "Service"), operated by an individual established in Zurich, Switzerland, trading as Sojourn. Postal address: Sojourn, Hammerstrasse 103, 8032 Zurich, Switzerland. The operator's identity is given on request at [email protected]. There is no company behind Sojourn today. If one is set up, these Terms will name it as the operator before it takes over. By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
Sojourn helps you record the nights you spend in different countries and regions, track worked days, keep notes, collect supporting proofs, and generate indicative reports to help you monitor your tax-residence situation. Two optional features can fill some of that in for you: background location tracking, and a read-only scan of mailboxes you connect. Both are described in sections 5 and 6, both are off until you switch them on, and neither ever decides anything on its own.
Sojourn is offered on a paid subscription, with a free trial, as described in section 4. It is young software and may change, break, or be interrupted.
Not tax, legal or financial advice. Sojourn is an informational tool. Its counts, projections, colours, thresholds, alerts and reports are indicative only, may be incomplete or inaccurate, and do not constitute tax, legal, accounting or financial advice. Residence and tax rules vary by country and change over time. You remain solely responsible for your declarations and decisions, and you should consult a qualified professional before relying on any figure from the Service.
You must be at least 18 (or the minimum age required in your country) and able to enter a binding contract. You are responsible for complying with the laws that apply to you, including your local tax and reporting obligations. You are responsible for the accuracy of the data you enter and for keeping your credentials secure. You are responsible for activity under your account.
What is paid. Sojourn Pro is the paid plan, and it unlocks the Service in full. Two subscriptions are offered: an annual subscription and a monthly subscription. The price of each is shown on the subscription screen in your own currency, as set by the App Store for your country, before you confirm anything. The monthly subscription exports only the calendar year in progress; the annual subscription exports every period you have recorded.
Free trial. The annual subscription starts with a 7-day free trial, offered once per Apple ID. Nothing is charged during the trial. If you do not cancel at least 24 hours before it ends, the annual subscription begins and your Apple ID is charged. The monthly subscription has no trial and is charged on purchase. If you take a subscription while a free trial is running, any unused portion of that trial is forfeited.
Payment and renewal. Payment is charged to your Apple ID account on confirmation of purchase. Subscriptions renew automatically for the same period, at the same price, unless you turn off auto-renewal at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Your Apple ID is charged for the renewal within the 24 hours before the period ends. We do not receive, hold or process your payment details.
Cancelling. You can turn off auto-renewal at any time in the App Store: open Settings on your device, tap your name, then Subscriptions. Cancelling stops the next charge; it does not shorten the period you have already paid for, and you keep Sojourn Pro until that period ends. Deleting the app does not cancel a subscription.
Refunds. Purchases are made from Apple, and refunds are handled by Apple, not by us. You can request one at reportaproblem.apple.com. Any statutory right of withdrawal you may have under the law of your country applies in addition and is not affected by this paragraph.
Promotional and offer codes. We may issue Apple offer codes, for example to people helping us test Sojourn. A code is redeemed in the App Store, applies to one Apple ID, and grants the period it states. When that period ends, the subscription renews at the standard price unless you turn off auto-renewal, exactly as above. Apple refuses an offer to an Apple ID that has already used an introductory offer for the same subscription group.
What happens when a subscription ends. The next time you open Sojourn, the Service is locked, and you unlock it again by renewing your subscription, by restoring a purchase made with your Apple ID, or by redeeming an offer code. Nothing you recorded is deleted. Your nights, trips, notes and proofs stay where they are, on your device and in your account, and you get them back in full when you subscribe again. You can also ask us for a copy of your data at any time, subscription or not, at [email protected].
Price changes. If we change the price of a subscription, Apple will ask for your consent before any renewal at the new price, and you can refuse it by turning off auto-renewal.
Location tracking is optional and off until you enable it. If you enable it, you authorise Sojourn to record your device's location in the background, including while the app is closed, and to keep a log of those readings on your device. What that log contains, how long it is kept and where it goes is described in our Privacy Policy.
Two things are worth stating plainly. Location readings are used to suggest where you spent a night; they never overwrite a night you have entered yourself. And a phone is not a person: a device left at home, switched off, out of battery or without signal produces readings that are missing or wrong. Your device's location, on its own, does not prove where you were, and Sojourn does not present it as proof. You can disable tracking at any time in Settings, and in your device's own settings.
Inbox scanning is optional and off until you connect a mailbox. If you connect one, you grant Sojourn read-only access to it, for the sole purpose of finding your travel and lodging bookings. Sojourn does not send email from your mailbox, does not modify or delete anything in it, and does not use its contents for advertising or for training any model.
Automated processing. To read a booking, the content of a matching message, and sometimes a document attached to it, is processed by an automated third-party service to extract dates, places and reference numbers. That service and the safeguards around it are named in our Privacy Policy. By connecting a mailbox you consent to that processing.
What a detection is, and is not. A detection is a suggestion. It appears in a review queue and changes nothing in your calendar until you confirm it. Detection is best effort and will not find everything: a booking made outside your mailbox, forwarded to you by someone else, written in an unusual format, or filed by your mail provider where we do not look, will simply not be seen. An empty review queue does not mean you did not travel. You remain responsible for checking your own record.
You can disconnect a mailbox at any time in Settings. Disconnecting revokes our access and removes the stored credentials from your device.
You keep all rights to the data, notes and proofs you provide. You grant us a limited licence to host and process them solely to operate the Service for you. You are responsible for ensuring you have the right to upload any proof or document, and for the content of the notes you write.
Notes are yours and are treated as private text, not as data we measure. They are excluded from an exported report unless you tick the box that includes them, and that box starts unticked every time.
Feedback. If you send feedback from the app, the message, the technical context shown to you on that screen, and any screenshots you choose yourself are sent to us and stored with your account so we can answer you. We may use what you send to diagnose and fix the Service. Nothing is captured from your screen automatically; only the images you pick are sent.
Sojourn can generate a report of your nights, trips and proofs, as a document or a data file. That report is built from what you recorded and from what the Service detected, and nothing else. It is not a certificate, it is not issued or endorsed by any tax authority, and it carries no legal status of its own.
You are responsible for reviewing a report before you rely on it or send it to anyone. If you share an export, or a link to one, whoever holds it can read everything it contains, so share it only with people you intend to.
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind to the fullest extent permitted by law. It may contain errors and is not guaranteed to be accurate, complete, secure or uninterrupted. We may add, change or withdraw features, including the optional features in sections 5 and 6, and including features that depend on a third party we do not control.
Your records live on your device first. The cloud backup of your calendar is a convenience, not a guarantee: keep your own copy of anything you cannot afford to lose, using the export in section 8.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental or consequential damages, nor for any tax, penalty, interest, loss or decision arising from your use of, or reliance on, the Service, including any figure, detection, alert or report it produces. Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited under applicable law.
You may stop using the Service and delete your account at any time from Settings, Account, Delete account. Deleting your account does not cancel a subscription: turn off auto-renewal in the App Store as described in section 4. We may suspend or terminate access if you breach these Terms or to protect the Service.
We may modify the Service or these Terms. We will post the updated Terms here and update the date above; continued use after changes means you accept them.
If you downloaded the app from the Apple App Store, the following also applies. These Terms are concluded between you and Sojourn only, not with Apple Inc. ("Apple"), and Apple is not responsible for the app or its content. Your licence to use the app is limited to a non-transferable licence to use it on Apple-branded products that you own or control, as permitted by the Usage Rules of the Apple Media Services Terms and Conditions (except that the app may be accessed by other accounts via Family Sharing or volume purchasing, where available).
Questions, complaints or claims regarding the app should be directed to Sojourn at [email protected] (Sojourn, Hammerstrasse 103, 8032 Zurich, Switzerland).
These Terms are governed by the laws of Switzerland, and disputes are subject to the courts of Zurich, Switzerland, without prejudice to any mandatory consumer-protection rights in your country of residence.
